How to use the unpaid break calculator
This tool uses the regular hourly rate to show a simple comparison. It does not apply overtime multipliers or decide whether a break should be paid. Enter the break arrangement that applies to your work.
The calculation
Unpaid minutes ÷ 60 × hourly rate × shifts = estimated gross pay difference
A 30-minute unpaid break at $20 per hour represents $10 of regular-rate pay. Across five shifts, that is 2.5 unpaid hours and a $50 difference in the gross estimate.
Paid and unpaid breaks are different
Paid breaks remain part of payable time. Unpaid breaks are removed. If your shift crosses an overtime threshold, use the hourly pay calculator to explore the combined effect of break time and overtime rules.
