Fair-Use Storage Policy

ShiftSum — Pro Lifetime sync · Status: Draft v1 (2026-07-19) — published for transparency ahead of the v1.1 sync release; it will be finalized before sync ships, and this page is the canonical version from then on.

Why this policy exists

Pro Lifetime is a one-time purchase that includes all Pro features, including sync when it arrives. A one-time price cannot honestly promise unbounded hosted storage forever, so this policy states plainly what lifetime sync includes and where the boundaries are. What lifetime sync includes (from v1.1)

• Sync of your work record (jobs, shifts, breaks, pay rules, adjustments, and preferences) between your own devices signed in to the same Apple ID, via iCloud (CloudKit).
• The same privacy posture as the rest of the app: your record remains yours, encrypted in transit, and is never used for analytics or advertising.
• Sync is included in your one-time lifetime price — there is no recurring fee from us for it.

Fair use

Lifetime sync is for your own personal work record:

• one person, one Apple ID, your own devices;
• normal personal time-tracking volumes. A realistic personal record is a few megabytes — even tracking every shift for 25 years stays well under 50 MB. The fair-use ceiling is set far above that at 250 MB of synced data, so no ordinary user will ever approach it;
• no use as general-purpose file storage, a backend for other software, or shared/multi-person storage.

If you ever do approach the ceiling, we contact you first and work it out — options include reducing stored data or a storage arrangement. Automated enforcement, if ever needed, follows contact, not the other way around.

The lifetime guarantee

If storage economics ever make this policy unsustainable, the change applies to future purchasers only. Existing lifetime purchasers keep the sync they bought. That commitment is part of the product, not a courtesy.

Review

This policy is reviewed against actual sync storage costs at the first post-launch retention readout, and whenever sync infrastructure changes. Any revision is published at this URL with a new version marker before it takes effect.

About pay estimates

All pay values are estimates based on rules entered by the user. The app must not claim to calculate legally authoritative wages, payroll, taxes, deductions, benefits, or net pay.
